Thomas Lewis: Head Coach

Born and raised in Akron, Ohio, Coach Lewis attended Akron Garfield HS. Thomas attended the University of Indiana and during his career was named a first team All-Big Ten and 2nd team All-American receiver. He also was a punt and kick-off returner on the Hoosiers football team. In 1994, Coach Lewis entered the NFL Draft and was a first round pick, 24th overall, of the New York Giants. Coach Lewis was inducted into the Summit County Sports Hall of Fame in 2015 to celebrate his athletic and community accomplishments.

Coach Lewis has coached at North Canyon High School, Oaks Christian High School in Westlake, CA and most recently served as the Passing Game Coordinator and Wide Receivers Coach at Chaparral High School.


Paul Germinaro: Associate Head Coach / Offensive Line

Coach Germinaro is entering his 7th season as a Firebird and his 15th year coaching High School football. Coach Germinaro has coached at Bourgade High School and at Arcadia High School as the Varsity Offensive & Defensive Line Coach. He joined the Chaparral Coaching Staff in 2010 as the Freshman Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach, subsequently transitioning to the Freshman Head Coach position where he accumulated a 27-3 record. He works for the City of Scottsdale as the Youth Sports Coordinator and has over 16 years of experience working with children in a variety of Sports & Recreation programs in Scottsdale. Coach Germ has been married to his loving wife Sarah for 15 years; together they have two sons, Coleman and Lukas.

Mike Angelone: Inside Linebackers / Special Teams Coordinator

Coach Mike Angelone has returned from a one year retirement to resume his roles of Special Teams Coordinator on the Varsity squad and Inside Linebackers. Coach Angelone has coached at Chaparral since 1997 with Coach Ron Estabrook. He is a retired N.Y.C. Firefighter and has been coaching Baseball and Football since 1975. He is married to his wife Cathy and has lived in the Chaparral school district for 23 years. He has four children Nick, Valerie, Raquel and Gabby.

Trace Carroll: Running Backs

Coach Trace is entering his 7th season coaching with Chaparral High School where he also graduated in 2009. In his time as a player here at Chaparral he was a 3 year varsity player in two sports, Football and Wrestling. He began coaching after high school on Coach Charlie Ragle’s staff where he was a part of the state champion staff in 2009, 2010, 2011. Trace is newly engaged to his Fiancé Krissy and is excited for the future, football and life!

Airibin Justin: Defensive Backs/Corners

Coach Justin joins the Firebird Coaching staff in 2016 as one of the most experienced and well-respected coaches in the State of Arizona. Coach Justin played for the University of Utah and the NAU Lumberjacks and played professionally in both the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens, and the CFL, with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Saskatchewan Roughriders and Edmonton Eskimos.
Coach Justin brings extensive knowledge in both Football and Track & Field to Chaparral High School, with over 8 years of coaching experience. He is the Director of Showtyme Performance, a premiere track and athletics training program. He has also served as Defensive Coordinator, and Defensive Backs coach, at Boulder Creek High School, Liberty and North Canyon High Schools, as well as Head Track Coach at North Canyon High School.

Andrew Kahn: Outside Linebackers

Coach Kahn was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended Harriton High School in Rosemont, PA where he was an all-league inside linebacker. He graduated from Arizona State University in 2006 with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Coach Kahn taught 6th grade in Phoenix for 6 years. He is currently a sales representative in North Phoenix. This is his 5th year on the Firebirds coaching staff, previously serving as the Outside Linebackers Coach and Special Teams Coordinator. He also coached inside linebackers at North Canyon High School. Before his high school experience, Andrew coached football at the youth level for 3 years. He recently married Alexandra. Coach Kahn is looking forward to helping the Chaparral Firebirds achieve greatness during the 2016 football season.

Aaron Weise: Quarterbacks

Coach Wiese is entering his 4th year coaching at Chaparral. A native Phoenician, he attended Gilbert High School where he played quarterback. After high school, he attended Arizona State University, graduating with his degree in Economics in 2011. This is the second season that Coach Wiese will be serving as the quarterback coach for both JV and Varsity levels.

Dubois Gilliam: Defensive Backs

Coach Gilliam is entering his 6th season as a varsity high school football coach and 5th season as a coach at Chaparral, where he assists in the defensive secondary with a focus on the safeties. Dubois was raised in McLean, VA until high school when his family moved to Selma, AL. While attending Selma High School Coach Gilliam played football under Alabama High School and College Football Hall of Famer Woodrow Lowe. Coach Gilliam went on to play safety in the Southeastern Conference at Auburn University (War Eagle!) under Coach Terry Bowden and legendary Defensive Coordinator Bill “Brother” Oliver. Coach Gilliam graduated from Auburn in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics. Coach Gilliam currently works as a Resource Delivery Manager for a premier Information Technology Strategic Solutions provider and is married to Alisha Gilliam of Gilbert, Arizona. They have 5 kids Shaylin, Hailey, Karissa, Brianna and Cameron.

Brandon Whitener: Defensive Line

Coach Whitener is entering his 7th varsity coaching season and 1st with Chaparral. Whitener was born and raised in Florissant, MO where he graduated from Hazelwood Central High School (2000). He went on to play collegiately at Morningside College in Sioux City, IA. His college playing career included time on both sides of the ball; starting as a Strong Safety/ Linebacker and concluding as an All – GPAC Honorable Mention Running Back (2004). He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Corporate Communication (2005). Coach Whitener entered coaching upon his arrival to The Grand Canyon State. His coaching career included stops at Maryvale High School, North Canyon High School with current Head Coach Thomas Lewis, and with his longest tenure with Notre Dame Preparatory. Coach Whitener currently works as a Claim Supervisor at Repwest Insurance, a division of the Amerco family of businesses. Outside of coaching, he enjoys time with his 3 kids Davian (7), Karter (5), and Haidyn (2).

Ace Justin: Wide Receivers

Coach Ace Justin is excited to start his first year at Chaparral High School. He will be coaching the Varsity wide Receivers for the 2016 season. Prior to coaching, Coach Justin played collegiate football at New Mexico State University.

As a professional he had a rookie tryout with the Houston Texans, then going on to play in the Arena football league with the Arizona Rattlers, Wyoming Cavalry, and as most recent Bloomington Edge, where he excelled as a Wide Receiver and Kick Returner.

Coach Justin has coached numerous All State, All Conference, and All Arizona wide receivers in his recent years of coaching.
Besides coaching and playing Professional Football, Coach Ace runs a performance company, Showtyme Performance, alongside his brother AJ Justin. Showtyme Performance has helped and guided many student athletes continue with their athletic goals onto the collegiate level.

Coach Ace can’t wait to bring personal knowledge and experience to the program and have continued success and influence at Chaparral High School.

Mike Mindingall: Wide Receivers

Coach Mindingall is entering his first season on the Chaparral High School staff as a Wide Receiver coach and Equipment manager. Coach Mindingall retired from the US Marine Corps in 2013 and is a single parent of 3 boys and 1 daughter. Coach Mindingall attended Randolph High School in Randolph, NJ, where he won several awards each year as one of New Jersey best 110 High Hurdles. Coach Mindingall received several D1 offers for Track and Football. Coach Mindingall played football in Japan and trained for the 1996 Olympics in the 110 High Hurdles while serving his 22 years in the Marine Corps. Mike began his football coaching career 14 years ago coaching youth football in California before coaching at Rancho Christian High School in Temecula, Ca as Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator. He had the pleasure to coach with Terrell Davis of the Denver Broncos, Byron Chamberlin of the Denver Broncos, Travis Davis from Jacksonville Jaguars, Ben Coleman of Jacksonville Jaguars and four-time 400 meter Gold medalist Tyree Washington. Coach Mindingall then served as Assistant Head Coach and Wide Receiver coach in Long Beach at Lakewood High School. Coach Mindingall believes in motivating young athletes on and off the field and never giving up on a player.

Dale See: Strength & Conditioning / JV Head Coach

A former “Walk-On”, Coach See earned a Football scholarship at the University of Kentucky and went on to play two seasons of professional football in Europe. Coach See is a proud husband, father, and successful business person with a “lifelong” passion for health & human performance. Coach See holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Master’s Degree in Organizational Management as well being an NCAA approved Certified Strength & Conditioning Coach.

Coach See has 21 years of “active” leadership, developing, coaching people in business & sports, and knows the formula: “Active” Leadership drives culture, culture inspires behavior, and behavior delivers results!

Alan Palamino: JV Defensive Coordinator

Coach Palomino is entering his 7th year coaching HS football and his 2nd year at Chaparral as the Varsity Linebacker Assistant and JV Defensive Coordinator. Coach Palamino played at Deer Valley HS in Glendale and went right into coaching after graduating. He coached at Pinnacle High School where he had the opportunity to coach his cousins Addison & Devon Palomino before returning to his alma mater Deer Valley where he coached cousin Easton Palomino and worked under Joe Kersting former DV & GCC head coach. Alan also coached previously at Notre Dame Prep and the Varsity Linebackers at Horizon HS.

Bryan Lynn: Offensive Assistant Coach

Coach Lynn is in his second year of coaching High School football, both at Chaparral High School. He is currently a student at ASU majoring in Sociology. Coach Lynn attended Cactus Shadows High School where he played Fullback.

Jared Williams: Defensive Assistant Coach

Coach Williams returns for his second year coaching at Chaparral High School. Originally from San Francisco but raised in Arizona, Coach Williams attended Highland High School in Gilbert where he was a 3 year varsity starter as a shooting guard for the basketball team and played QB & OLB on football team. He also earned 2-time All-Conference selections in basketball. Coach Williams coached youth football for 6 years before joining the Chaparral freshman staff in 2015 where he coached LB & RB. Jared has a undergraduate degree in Finance and currently works at ORION Investment Real Estate in Scottsdale, specializing in Multi-Tenant Retail Investment Sales.

Jon Roberts: Quarterbacks

Coach Roberts joins the Chaparral Firebirds this year to assist with the Quarterbacks. Jon played at Casa Grande Union High School and then collegiately at the University of New Mexico 1998-2000, and Norfolk State University 2000-03. Coach Roberts served most recently as the Offensive Coordinator at Vista Grande High School in 2015-2016.

John Germanaro: Quality Control

Coach Germinaro has been part of the Firebird family for seven years following his “little” brother around and finally joining the coaching staff last year. Originally from Connecticut, but raised in Arizona, Coach Germinaro attended Deer Valley High School where he played football and learned how important the athletic trainer is. Coach Germinaro is currently continuing a long and successful career in the automotive field. Coach Germinaro has been married to his loving and understanding wife Renae for 20 years; together they have two teenage daughters, Jenna and Mia.
